Vocabulary Game For Kids (Includes Template)

Vocabulary Game for kids

When it comes to expressing ourselves properly, we need to use the right words. Often times, our little ones get frustrated because they have problems expressing themselves. They don’t know which words to use.

I’m also about making learning and helping kids achieve developmental milestones in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. It makes the entire process smoother and easier for both parents and children. And here I am with a vocabulary game for kids.

Why Use This Vocabulary Game for Kids

Before I introduce my vocabulary game for kids, I want to talk about how this game is designed to help your child:

  • A good vocabulary makes communication easier for your child. He is able to explain himself better. At the same time, he is able to understand what others are saying also. It boosts your child’s language development.
  • It improves your child’s power of persuasion.
  • He will make a better impression on his teachers and peers with a good vocabulary.
  • It will make all this learning fun.
  • Playing with your child improves parent-child bonding. It’s really the best way you can bond with your child.
  • Board Games help develop the concept of sharing. Remember how we talked about sharing a couple of weeks back.

Vocabulary Game for Kids

I came up with this very interesting vocabulary game with my kids. We started off by creating one with just board markers and a cardboard sheet. It was rough and basic, but we enjoyed playing the game.

For my blog, I went on to create the game on my computer. Here it is:

How to Play The Vocabulary Board Game

What You Need

  • Vocabulary Board Game Template
  • Flashcards
  • Dice
  • Pieces to use as pawns or markers (we used lego people)

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Print the Vocabulary Board Game Template and the Flash Cards
  2. Paste the template on a stiff piece of paper
  3. Now place your pieces at the start.
  4. Roll the Dice
  5. Follow the instructions where you land. For instance, if it says, ‘Spell out’, then the other player picks a card. He reads out the card and you spell it out.
  6. If you land on the lists, you just have to list the category mentioned.
  7. Have fun playing!

More Vocabulary Games For Kids

Along with this board game, you can try out other vocabulary games for kids. Find out which one our child enjoys most:

  • I spy. From your surrounding, pick something. It could be a table, chair or even a small toy. Give hints to help your child guess the object. Phrases like, ‘I spy with my little eye something brown,’ ‘something brown and strong’. Keep going until he guesses it. Take turns.
  • Pictionary. You can create your own Pictionary game. Write down a combination of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Take turns picking up the flashcards. When you pick one, your child has to guess what’s on the flashcard while you draw it on a whiteboard or a piece of paper.
  • Charades. This is very similar to Pictionary. Only this time, you act out the words on the flashcards.
  • Word Search.  Create or download a few easy word search for kids. Have fun searching for the words from the grid.
